The Centurion was one of the most famous British tanks, starting development in 1943 and still in limited service to the present day. It was widely exported to friendly armies and evolved through thirteen different marks in British service. Over 4,400 were produced. Its main armament evolved from the QF 17-pdr, through the 20-pdr, to the superlative L7 105 mm gun.  Many countries employed Centurions for decades and many Centurion versions have seen service with all the armies it served in.
